Associações entre competência motora e o risco de obesidade

Resumo

Objetivo: Avaliar se a competência motora está associada ao risco de obesidade em adolescentes. Métodos: A amostra foi composta por 296 adolescentes (56,1% meninas) de 12 a 15 anos recrutados no Rio de Janeiro, Brasil. A competência motora foi avaliada por meio do Körperkoordenationtest fur kinder (KTK). Medidas de índice de massa corporal (IMC) foram utilizadas para classificar o peso dos participantes. A atividade física foi determinada por meio de um questionário autoaplicável validado. Modelos de regressão logística multinomial e binária, ajustados para potenciais fatores de confusão (isto é, idade, sexo e atividade física), foram executados para examinar a associação entre competência motora e risco de obesidade. Resultados: Quase metade dos participantes (48%) apresentou baixa competência motora. Entre os adolescentes com obesidade, 92,9% apresentaram baixa competência motora. Além disso, a baixa competência motora foi associada a um maior risco de excesso de peso (OR: 2,940, p=0,006) e obesidade (OR: 18,366, p<0,001), mesmo após ajuste para potenciais fatores de confusão. Em contrapartida, adolescentes com competência motora adequada apresentaram menor probabilidade de apresentar sobrepeso (OR: 0,340, p = 0,006) e obesidade (OR: 0,054, p < 0,001). Conclusão: Ter baixa competência motora pode ser um fator de risco para obesidade, enquanto uma competência motora adequada mostrou-se um fator de proteção contra esta doença. A obesidade pediátrica é multifatorial, incluindo aspectos ambientais; No entanto, este estudo demonstrou que a competência motora parece ser importante para a manutenção de um peso saudável em jovens.
