¿Es eficaz el Pilates Mat en la cognición, el estado de ánimo y el envejecimiento de personas con párkinson? Un ensayo clínico aleatorizado.

Resumen

Introducción: La enfermedad de Parkinson deteriora las funciones cognitivas y emocionales, afectando negativamente la calidad de vida de las personas. Se han investigado estrategias no farmacológicas, como el ejercicio físico, para mitigar estos efectos.

Objetivo: Analizar la efectividad de una intervención de Pilates Mat de 12 semanas sobre la cognición, el estado de ánimo y la perspectiva del envejecimiento en personas con enfermedad de Parkinson.

Metodología: Se realizó un ensayo clínico aleatorizado con dos grupos paralelos, incluyendo 23 personas con diagnóstico de enfermedad de Parkinson y una edad media de 61,7 años (±7,5), asignadas al grupo de intervención de Pilates Mat (n=11) y al grupo control (n=12). La recopilación de datos se realizó al inicio y después de la intervención, evaluando variables sociodemográficas, clínicas, cognitivas, anímicas y de perspectiva del envejecimiento.

Resultados: El grupo de intervención mostró mejoras significativas en la cognición (p=0,028) y la perspectiva del envejecimiento en relación con la felicidad (p=0,010). El grupo control mostró un empeoramiento intragrupo en depresión (p=0,004), confusión (p=0,026) y fatiga (p=0,047). Entre los grupos, el grupo control mostró un empeoramiento en fatiga (p=0,005) y depresión (p=0,033), mientras que el grupo de intervención mostró mejoras en ira (p=0,028) y felicidad en la perspectiva del envejecimiento (p=0,023).

Discusión: Los hallazgos respaldan estudios previos que sugieren los beneficios de las prácticas mente-cuerpo en la cognición y el estado emocional en personas con enfermedad de Parkinson.

Conclusiones: El Pilates Mat demostró ser una opción terapéutica complementaria segura, que promueve mejoras cognitivas, emocionales y en la perspectiva del envejecimiento en personas con enfermedad de Parkinson.
