Introduction: Physical exercise is crucial in healthy ageing, offering multiple benefits in physical fitness and the general well-being of older adults.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of three types of physical exercise (dance, coordinated exercises, and multimodal program) on functional capacity and general well-being in older adults in a Colombian city.
Methodology: Quasi-experimental study with 450 older adults who attended daily meetings in three senior groups, participated voluntarily, and signed informed consent; Senior-Fitness-Test and T-WHO5 scale were applied.
Results: Multimodal exercise had a greater impact on improving physical capacities while dance had a greater effect on psychological well-being; the intervention focused on coordination was the least effective.
Discussion: In agreement with other authors, we identified not only the main effects of each intervention, but also how the variables of time, age, and the interactions between them influence the results obtained.
Conclusions: Interventions do not produce the same impact in all age groups; for older people, it is necessary to adapt physical exercise programs to their characteristics and abilities to optimize their effectiveness.
