Introduction: Physical fitness (PF) is an important indicator of health in adolescents.
Objetive: analyze the effect of an intervention program with and without music on PF in adolescents.
Method: 53 students participated (15.68 ±.54 years old), assigned to two experimental groups: group 1 PF with music and group 2 without music. PF was assessed before and after the intervention with the Alpha-Fitness battery. The intervention program lasted 8 weeks/2 hours/week.
Results: Both groups (with and without music) had significant changes in the agility test (p<0.001), but only the group with music showed significant improvements in the Course Navette, standing broad jump and body mass index (BMI) (p<0.001). By sex, girls in both groups showed lower levels in all tests in the pretest, a trend that they maintained after the program. However, the effect of the program on the girls in the group with music is greater than that of the girls without music.
Conclusion: The music program was the most effective for improving PF in adolescents of this age range, and was also more favorable in the female gender.
