Introduction: Inclusive rugby with people with intellectual disabilities is one of the most innovative and growing sports in Spain. In 2019, the Spanish Rugby Federation (FER) approved the National Plan for Inclusive Rugby, designing structures and regulations to accommodate people with intellectual disabilities who want to play rugby.
Objective: the aim of this study was to find out the situation of people with ID in Spanish rugby clubs that have activities for this group, through the opinion of the representatives of these clubs.
Methodology: for this purpose, all representatives of Spanish rugby clubs and associations were invited to a statewide meeting to discuss these two topics, and were asked to fill in a survey on the process of inclusion of these people in the clubs. In the end, 34 clubs completed the form through their representatives.
Results: after analysis, the main emerging themes were the importance of visibility and the promotion of inclusive rugby.
Discussion: in line with other studies in this field, the need for different tools (economic and social) to generate contexts of inclusion in Spanish rugby clubs is evident.
Conclusions: it was concluded that the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in rugby games or activities is limited due to the impediments detected (e.g. the lack of participation of people with intellectual disabilities in rugby games or activities) , highlighting the importance of promoting this modality in Spain.
