Sports and physical activity management challenges and issues in Latin America: Strategic diagnosis through the P + SEPCES = R Tools and the SWOT matrix

Introduction: Sports and physical activity management in Latin America, in its essence and reason for being, is a strategic ally that addresses diverse social, cultural, political, economic, and environmental issues. However, in its operational and strategic application, it faces challenges and issues in the same areas in which it intervenes, situations that hinder the development and growth of physical and sports activities in different Latin American regions.
Objective: Therefore, the aim of the study was to identify the main problems, challenges, and opportunities in the management of sports and physical activities.
Methodology: This study aimed to determine the main issues, challenges, and opportunities of sport and physical activity management through a qualitative exploratory study of 235 participants from 14 countries who work professionally in the field.
Discussion: Compared to the PESTEL tool, its essence provides a structured approach to external factors in strategic management, while the P + SEPCES = R tool used in the research focuses on gathering specific perceptions and experiences from a problem- and challenge-oriented perspective.
Conclusions: The P + SEPCES = R tool demonstrates great strategic potential in sports management by identifying key issues, cultural challenges, and areas for organizational improvement in Latin America.
