Abstract

Introduction: fitness is an integral concept linked to physical and mental health, hence the relevance of finding intervention opportunities to address public health challenges and promote the growth of the fitness sector.

Objective: to identify fitness trends in Colima, Mexico for 2025.

Methodology: the methodology of this study is quantitative-descriptive, the instrument used was a local adaptation of the ACSM Worldwide Survey of Fitness Trends questionnaire, which included 56 fitness trends, sociodemographic elements and economic indicators. The population consisted of 340 fitness professionals in the 10 municipalities of Colima (217 men and 122 women), randomly selected.

Results: the main findings show that the predominant trends include exercise and weight loss programs, personal and functional training. Regarding the work environment, 33.5% of the respondents work in the public sector, 30% in the private sector, and the rest in civil associations or the student environment.

Discussion: it is discussed that the sector faces challenges such as the retention of experienced talent and the limited participation of women in non-stereotypical roles.

Conclusions: local trends are partially aligned with national trends and differ from international trends, which prioritize reimbursements for qualified professionals (2024) and portable technology (2023). This first local effort provides basic data for decision making in the fitness sector, supporting the professional‘s education and training, as well as the public policy development that responds to the needs of the Colima‘s population.
