Efeito de modalidades de exercício único na função cognitiva de múltiplos domínios em idosos recreativamente ativos

Resumo

Introdução: Os benefícios cognitivos de uma única sessão de atividade física em idosos ainda estão a ser estudados.
Objectivo: Este estudo explorou os efeitos de uma única sessão de exercícios de competências abertas e fechadas nas funções cognitivas de idosos fisicamente activos.
Metodologia: Noventa e nove idosos saudáveis ​​foram recrutados e distribuídos por três grupos: badminton (n=33), habilidade fechada (n=33) e controlo (n=33). As avaliações cognitivas, como os testes N-back, os testes Stroop e os testes de pista, foram realizadas antes e depois das sessões de exercício.
Resultados: A ANOVA mostrou um efeito principal do grupo no tempo de reação N-back (p=0,57), com o grupo badminton (812,3±25,0 ms) a apresentar uma reação mais rápida do que os grupos habilidade fechada (825±35 ms) e controlo (842,1±41,6 ms). Em termos de precisão, o grupo badminton (75,7±10,4%, p=0,001) também obteve uma pontuação superior ao grupo controlo (70,7±12,1%, p=0,001). Ambos os grupos de exercício apresentaram melhorias significativas no desempenho do teste TMT-A (p=0,0002), com o grupo de badminton (26,09±3,97s, p<0,0001) a completar a tarefa significativamente mais rápido do que o grupo de controlo (32,36±5,92s, p=0,0001).
Discussão: Estes achados estão de acordo com estudos que sugerem que os exercícios de competências abertas proporcionam uma maior melhoria cognitiva em comparação com os exercícios de competências fechadas, devido à natureza da atividade.
Conclusões: Sugere-se que os exercícios de competências abertas podem gerar uma maior melhoria cognitiva imediata do que as atividades de competências fechadas, particularmente na memória de trabalho e na função executiva.
