Introduction: Children with motor difficulties may exhibit signs of risk for Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD). DCD involves motor impairments and impacts daily life activities, making early diagnosis essential.
Objective: To identify the prevalence of risk signs for DCD in children aged 5 to 15 years from the city of Três Corações, Brazil.
Methodology: The study included 1,293 families, whose parents answered the 15 questions present in the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire - DCDQ Brazil.
Results: The prevalence of indicative signs of DCD was 44.3%, with no significant differences in the presence of indicative signs of DCD between boys and girls. A higher concentration of these signs was observed in children over 7 years of age. Additionally, positive correlations were found between age and the questions in the DCDQ.
Discussion: Overall, the results found here were corroborated by international literature. The only differing point is that in our results we did not find differences in the prevalence of DCD signs between boys and girls, whereas international literature shows a higher prevalence in boys.
Conclusions: Using the DCDQ, based on the DSM-V-TR, we directly evaluated criterion B. Therefore, we did not find the prevalence of DCD, but the prevalence of indicative signs of this disorder, thus contributing to the screening of possible risk signs for DCD.
