Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) and hemodialysis negatively impact nutritional status, physical activity levels, and quality of life.
Objective: This study investigated the prevalence of these factors in CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis.
Methodology: It is a cross-sectional study with 143 patients on hemodialysis. Sociodemographic and anthropometric characteristics, physical activity level (IPAQ), and quality of life (KDQOL-SF) were assessed.
Results: Among the participants, a prevalence of overweight and obesity (53.8%), high physical inactivity (43.4%), and sedentary behavior (72.7%) was observed. Physically active patients exhibited better overall quality of life (69.2 ± 10.9 vs. 63.2 ± 13.8; p=0.006) and physical performance (88.9 ± 23.4 vs. 70.2 ± 37.0; p=0.001).
Discussion: The findings highlight the relationship between physical inactivity, inadequate nutritional status, and poorer quality of life. Strategies promoting physical activity and nutritional management are essential.
Conclusions: In conclusion, implementing multidisciplinary interventions is crucial to improve the general health and quality of life of patients on hemodialysis.
