Mapping scientific production in Ecuador on child development: a focus on the contribution of Physical Education and sport to the overall health of children (2021-2025)

Introduction: The study presented a systematic analysis of Ecuadorian scientific production on child development and the relationship of physical activity, physical education, and sport with the integral health of children. the topic gained relevance due to the increase in sedentary behavior, childhood obesity, and gaps in school and community programs. The objective was to map research published between 2021 and 2025 in order to identify existing trends, contributions, and gaps, describing the thematic and methodological evolution of the field.
Methodology: The methodology was developed through a scoping systematic review with a qualitative approach, which included twenty articles selected according to criteria of relevance, availability, and relation to child development. content analysis techniques were applied to organize, classify, and synthesize the findings.
Results: The results showed sustained growth in scientific production, especially in 2025, with a predominance of descriptive studies and themes focused on physical activity, physical health, nutrition, and physical education. relevant contributions to motor, cognitive, and socioemotional dimensions were identified, as well as gaps related to public policies, longitudinal research, and school-based interventions.
Discussion: The discussion contrasted the findings with national and international studies that demonstrated convergence regarding the risks of sedentary behavior, the importance of physical education, and the need for comprehensive policies.
Conclusions: The conclusions indicated that the study provided an updated synthesis of the field and that future research should deepen work on interventions, policy evaluation, and interdisciplinary approaches to strengthen child health.
