Introduction: physical and emotional well-being has gained relevance in higher education due to its influence on academic behavior and student engagement, particularly in contexts characterized by high academic demands and diverse psychosocial conditions.
Objective: to analyze physical and emotional well-being as predictors of adherence to academic responsibilities in higher education students.
Methodology: a quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and correlational-predictive study was conducted with 1,125 students from 18 higher education institutions selected through convenience sampling. Validated instruments were used to assess physical well-being, emotional well-being, and academic adherence. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson correlations, analysis of variance (ANOVA), and multiple linear regression models.
Results: emotional well-being (β = .41, p < .001) and physical well-being (β = .34, p < .001) significantly predicted academic adherence, explaining 31% of the variance (R² = .31). Positive correlations were also observed among the variables, along with significant differences in academic adherence according to levels of well-being (p < .001).
Discussion: findings are consistent with studies highlighting the role of emotional well-being and healthy lifestyle habits in regulating academic behavior and student engagement in higher education.
Conclusions: physical and emotional well-being emerge as relevant factors in adherence to academic responsibilities, emphasizing the need to strengthen institutional strategies aimed at promoting comprehensive health and student well-being.
