Introduction: The trajectory of Brazilian Rhythmic Gymnastics (RG) is closely linked to the formation of its national team, marked by selection criteria, training organization, and participation in competitions.
Objective: Therefore, we sought to analyze the participation of the Brazilian national team in World Championships, World Cups, FIG World Challenge Cups, and Olympic Games, as well as to identify the gymnasts’ territorial linkages from 1984 to 2025.
Methodology: This is a documentary study with descriptive analysis presented in two parts: analysis of participation in events identified on the websites of the World Gymnastics and the Olympic Studies Centre; and identification of the gymnasts’ territorial linkages (state/club at the time of selection). A total of 71 competition editions and 67 gymnasts were analyzed.
Results: A high level of participation in World Championships was observed, but with limited presence in the Olympic Games. In the World Cups and FIG World Challenge Cups, individual events showed significant participation, unlike group events. Regarding territorial linkages, 61.20% of the gymnasts originated from the Southern Region of Brazil, and 41.79% were affiliated with five clubs in the state of Paraná.
Discussion: We understand that the frequency of participation is associated with the consolidation of RG, its reference centers, scientific exchange, and institutional organization. However, the constitution of the national team remains strongly concentrated in specific clubs, cities, and states.
Conclusions: Understanding how these spaces are organized allows for the development of proposals aimed at disseminating and improving RG in Brazil.
