Introduction and objective: Sports organizations face technological, economic, and competitive transformations that require capabilities to innovate and respond strategically. In this context, the study aimed to analyze the associations between innovation capabilities, entrepreneurial orientation, and perceived competitive and financial position in organizations within the Colombian sports industry.
Methodology: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional study with an exploratory-correlational scope was conducted. The sample comprised 263 organizations selected through non-probability convenience sampling and represented by their managers or administrators. Data were collected using a questionnaire based on a five-point Likert scale. Measurement properties were examined using Cronbach’s alpha, composite reliability, and exploratory factor analysis. Associations were assessed through Spearman correlations and two multiple linear regression models with HC3 robust standard errors.
Results: Two innovation dimensions, one entrepreneurial orientation dimension, and one measure of perceived competitive and financial position were identified. The innovation dimensions showed no conclusive associations with the main outcome. Entrepreneurial orientation showed a small positive association in the bivariate analysis and in the model without controls; however, this association was attenuated and became less precise after statistically accounting for city and economic activity.
Conclusions: The findings do not support considering innovation capabilities or entrepreneurial orientation as independent determinants of the outcome studied. The results are exploratory and require replication in an independent sample.
