Presión por el peso, riesgo de TCA y estrategias de control del peso en atletas de élite de tug of war

Resumen

Introducción: La sokatira o Tug Of War (TOW), es un deporte internacional en el que dos equipos, cada uno compuesto por ocho atletas, compiten tirando de una cuerda en direcciones opuestas.

Objetivo: El objetivo de este estudio fue analizar la relación entre la presión percibida por el peso (PP), el riesgo de trastornos de la conducta alimentaria (TCA) y la adopción de conductas de control del peso en deportistas de élite de TOW.

Metodología: Se realizó un estudio observacional transversal con 174 deportistas internacionales participantes en el Campeonato de Europa. Se evaluaron variables antropométricas, PP mediante los cuestionarios Weight Pressures in Sport (WPS-F/WPS-M), riesgo de TCA mediante el cuestionario SCOFF y el uso auto informado de laxantes y diuréticos.

Resultados: Las mujeres presentaron niveles significativamente más elevados de PP que los hombres, observándose además un incremento progresivo de esta presión con la edad, mientras que en hombres se mantuvo estable. No se encontraron asociaciones significativas entre el riesgo de TCA y las variables sexo o edad; sin embargo, el 31.6% de la muestra obtuvo un resultado positivo en el SCOFF. El uso de laxantes fue reportado por el 5.7% de los participantes y se asoció significativamente con un mayor riesgo de TCA. El consumo de diuréticos fue reportado por el 8.05%, sin asociaciones significativas con el riesgo de TCA.

Conclusiones: Estos hallazgos sugieren que, aunque la sintomatología compatible con TCA no difiere por sexo o edad, la PP y determinadas conductas de control del peso representan un problema relevante en el TOW de élite.
