Efeitos do exercício de insuflação de globos na apneia obstrutiva do sono e na força respiratória em crianças

Introdução: A apneia obstrutiva do sono (AOS) é um stress respiratório frequente relacionado com o sono na população infantil e pode afetar os níveis de saúde física, o desempenho cognitivo e a qualidade de vida. O treino dos músculos respiratórios foi proposto como uma intervenção não invasiva para melhorar a função das vias respiratórias e reduzir os sintomas da AOS. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar os efeitos de um programa de exercícios de insuflação de globos na gravidade da apneia do sono e na força dos músculos respiratórios em crianças em idade escolar com AOS.
Métodos: Foi realizado um estúdio controlado aleatoriamente com 30 crianças no período escolar reportado com AOS. Os participantes foram aleatoriamente designados para um grupo de exercícios de insuflação de globos (BBG; n = 15) ou para um grupo de controlo (CG; n = 15). As crianças do BBG participaram num programa estruturado durante cinco semanas, enquanto o grupo de controlo recebia a atenção habitual. A gravidade da apneia do sono foi avaliada através de uma escala de gravidade e a força respiratória muscular foi mediada pela pressão inspiratória máxima (PImáx) e pela pressão inspiratória máxima (PEmáx). Os dados são analisados através de testes independentes e aparados.
Resultados: A gravidade da apneia do sono diminuiu significativamente no BBG em comparação com os valores iniciais e com o grupo de controlo (p < 0,05). A força respiratória muscular melhorou significativamente após a intervenção, observando-se maiores melhorias no BBG do que no CG (p < 0,05). Embora o MEP tenha aumentado significativamente, não foram encontradas diferenças significativas entre grupos no MIP.
Conclusões: O programa de exercícios de insuflação dos globos reduziu eficazmente a gravidade da apneia do sono e melhorou a força dos músculos respiratórios em crianças em idade escolar com AOS. Estes resultados suportam o uso de exercícios de inflação dos globos como uma intervenção sencil, económica e não invasiva para a gestão da AOS pediátrica.
