Relação entre componentes da aptidão física, funções executivas e competências socioemocionais em crianças em idade escolar

Introdução: As evidências sugerem que a atividade física e o condicionamento físico estão associados à função cerebral e ao desempenho cognitivo na infância, embora ainda não seja claro quais os componentes específicos que estão relacionados com os subdomínios da função executiva e das competências socioemocionais.
Objectivo: Avaliar as relações entre os componentes do condicionamento físico, as funções executivas e as competências socioemocionais em crianças em idade escolar.
Metodologia: Foi realizado um estudo transversal com 93 crianças dos 8 aos 12 anos. Foram avaliados o controlo inibitório, a memória de trabalho, o condicionamento físico e as capacidades socioemocionais. Foram realizadas correlações, seguidas de regressão linear múltipla ajustada por idade.
Resultados: Vários componentes do condicionamento físico correlacionaram-se com a função executiva. A coordenação óculo-manual apresentou as associações mais fortes, particularmente com o controlo inibitório (rs = 0,570; p < 0,001). Na regressão, foi o principal preditor da função executiva global e do controlo inibitório, explicando até 33,5% da variância. A memória de trabalho apresentou correlação com o condicionamento físico, mas esta correlação foi explicada sobretudo pela idade (p = 0,004). Não foram observadas associações com as competências socioemocionais.
Discussão: Diferentes componentes do condicionamento físico podem contribuir de formas distintas para os domínios da função executiva, sendo que a coordenação percetivo-motora desempenha um papel central.
Conclusões: Componentes específicos do condicionamento físico, particularmente a coordenação óculo-manual, estão associados à função executiva, especialmente ao controlo inibitório, realçando a importância da coordenação motora no desenvolvimento cognitivo infantil.
