Introduction: In environments such as Honduras, it is common to observe limitations in overall physical condition, both in aerobic and anaerobic capacity, reduced levels of muscle strength, and the presence of anxiety problems among soccer players.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of a High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) program on aerobic capacity, respiratory function, muscle power, and psychological state in Honduran soccer players.
Methodology: Nineteen men (19 ± 4.1 years; 172 ± 8.7 cm) participated. The protocol consisted of two 90-minute sessions per week, with intervals of effort at 90–95% of maximum heart rate. Vertical jump, forced spirometry, Yo-Yo Test performance, and anxiety levels were evaluated.
Results: The results show increases in FEV (310 ± 0.10 to 428 ± 0.80 L/min; p = 0.03; d = 0.75) and distance covered in the Yo-Yo Test (2016 to 2778 m; +37.8%), along with a reduction in maximum heart rate (–5 bpm). FEV₁ remained stable (p = 0.41) and vertical jump height did not change significantly (p = 0.28; d = –0.33). Total anxiety scores decreased from 18.2 ± 4.0 to 16.0 ± 2.9 (p = 0.01; d = –0.62).
Conclusions: The findings suggest that HIIT is associated with cardiorespiratory improvements and reduced anxiety, without affecting the lower limb power of soccer players in the Honduran Major Soccer League.
