Introduction: Motor coordination plays a pivotal role in the technical performance of basketball players. Nevertheless, a considerable number of athletes tend to prioritize strength and endurance training, often neglecting a systematic approach that integrates coordination development an omission that can elevate the risk of injury.
Objective: To evaluate the impact of a structured training program as an intervention strategy aimed at enhancing general dynamic coordination, óculo-manual coordination, and spatial orientation in youth basketball players during their developmental stage.
Methodology: This study adopted a quantitative, applied research design. Data collection was carried out through systematic observation, employing a validated and reliable coordination test. The training intervention was implemented through an action plan consisting of 48 sessions over a 16-week period, with a frequency of three sessions per week.
Results: The findings revealed statistically significant improvements (p < 0.05) between pretest and posttest scores in all assessed coordination domains: dynamic, manual, and spatial.
Discussion: These results align with existing literature, underscoring the critical importance of designing well-structured training programs. Such programs, when executed with methodological rigor, effectively address the specific physical and cognitive demands of basketball, thereby optimizing the development of essential motor capacities.
Conclusions: The evidence supports the efficacy of the proposed training program as a targeted intervention that significantly enhances both segmental and global coordination in youth engaged in formative basketball training.
