Objective: To establish the relationship between the levels of physical activity and degrees of disability in the adult population of five cities in the Northern and Andean regions (Colombia). Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study in 1153 subjects selected through simple random probability sampling (95% CI, 80% power, 5% error), recruited through the list of people with disabilities provided by the health secretariats municipal. The International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) short format and the WHO-DAS 2.0 of 36 questions were applied to determine the degrees of disability. Results: It was found a predominance of women (52%), single (68.5%) with ages between 41 to 60 years (40.8%) and socioeconomic stratum 1 (76.1%). Disability was greater for mobility with a mean of 37.7 ± 31.2, followed by participation in society (32.2 ± 27.3) and activities of daily living (28.3 ± 33). The practice of weekly physical activity obtained an average of 84 ± 94.2 minutes and significant differences were found in the minutes of weekly physical activity according to sex, age and type of disability, being higher in men (89, 5 ± 92.8), in the range of 18 to 25 years (112.6 ± 105.3) and in people with cognitive disabilities (125.1 ± 122.5). It was observed that the higher the degree of general disability and in each of the domains, the number of weekly days of physical activity decreased (p <0.05). Conclusion: There is a statistically significant correlation between degrees of disability, time sitting and minutes of weekly physical activity in the population studied.
Key Words: Disability Evaluation, Mobility Limitation, Social Participation, Motor Activity.
