Abstract

Introduction: Positive attitudes toward teamwork have a favorable impact on the cohesion of physical education groups.

Objective: To determine the influence of attitudes toward teamwork on the cohesion of physical education groups among secondary school students.

Methodology: This was a quantitative, observational, correlational-causal, and cross-sectional study. The population consisted of 950 secondary school students, and the sample was obtained through probabilistic sampling with a 3% margin of error, resulting in a sample of 503 students. Finally, a non-parametric ordinal logistic regression test was performed using two instruments: one measuring attitudes toward teamwork (34 items) and the other measuring cohesion toward teamwork (18 items). Both instruments demonstrated validity and reliability, as determined by their authors.

Results: Regarding attitudes toward teamwork, 15.3% of participants demonstrated a low level, 69.6% a moderate level, and 15.1% a high level. As for group cohesion in physical education, 16.9% demonstrated an inadequate level, 66% a moderate level, and 17.1% an adequate level.

Discussion: Studies found concurring with previous findings, indicating the influence of attitudes toward teamwork on group cohesion in physical education.

Conclusions: Therefore, it is established that collaboration among students is associated with group learning activities; thus, attitudes toward teamwork influence group cohesion in physical education.
