Impact of an integrated physical activity and emotional education program on high school students

Introducción: La salud física y emocional de los adolescentes puede enfrentar desafíos caracterizados por alta prevalencia de ansiedad, depresión y estrés académico. La integración de actividad física y educación emocional emerge como estrategia fundamental para el desarrollo integral adolescente.
Objetivo: Evaluar el impacto de un programa integrado de actividad física y educación emocional en los niveles de inteligencia emocional, competencias emocionales específicas, manejo del estrés y bienestar psicológico en estudiantes de bachillerato ecuatorianos.
Metodología: Se adoptó un diseño cuasiexperimental de pretest y postest con grupo control. Participaron 52 estudiantes de bachillerato divididos en grupo experimental (25 participantes) y grupo control (27 participantes). El programa integrado tuvo duración de 10 semanas con dos sesiones semanales de 90 minutos, combinando actividades de ejercicio físico con talleres de educación emocional.
Resultados: El grupo experimental mostró mejoras estadísticamente significativas en inteligencia emocional percibida, estrategias de regulación emocional adaptativas, reducción del estrés percibido y aumento del bienestar psicológico. Adicionalmente, se registraron incrementos significativos en actividad física vigorosa y moderada, con reducción del sedentarismo.
Discusión: Los hallazgos fueron consistentes con investigaciones previas que identifican la actividad física como estrategia efectiva para mejorar la salud mental y las competencias socioemocionales en adolescentes.
Conclusiones: El programa integrado constituye una intervención eficaz para potenciar el desarrollo emocional y el bienestar psicológico en estudiantes de bachillerato.
