A eficácia do treino de Muay Thai em biomarcadores de stress e composição corporal em jovens adultos

Resumo

Introdução: O aumento dos níveis de stress e a baixa composição corporal entre estudantes universitários exigem intervenções de fitness eficazes. O Muay Thai, uma arte marcial de alta intensidade que combina as exigências aeróbicas e anaeróbicas, pode oferecer benefícios duplos para a saúde metabólica e para a redução do stress, embora as evidências empíricas permaneçam limitadas.

Objectivo: Este estudo examinou os efeitos de um programa de treino de Muay Thai (MTT) de 8 semanas sobre biomarcadores de stress (alfa-amilase salivar, sAA), massa muscular e percentagem de gordura corporal, em comparação com a marcha rápida (CBR) em estudantes universitários.

Metodologia: Sessenta e quatro estudantes foram aleatoriamente designados para os grupos MTT (n = 32) ou CBR (n = 32). Ambas as intervenções consistiram em sessões de 60 minutos, três vezes por semana, durante oito semanas, com uma intensidade mantida entre 60% e 80% da frequência cardíaca máxima. A composição corporal (IMC, % de gordura corporal, gordura visceral) e os níveis de sAA foram avaliados no início do estudo, após 6 semanas e após a intervenção. As análises estatísticas incluíram testes t emparelhados e comparações intergrupos (p < 0,05).

Discussão: O grupo MTT apresentou maiores reduções na percentagem de gordura corporal (31,59% para 30,06%, p = 0,029) e na gordura visceral (7,63% para 6,94%, p = 0,016) em comparação com o grupo BWE. O gasto energético foi significativamente superior no grupo MTT (532 kcal/sessão vs. 494 kcal, p = 0,011). Enquanto os níveis de sAA aumentaram transitoriamente às 6 semanas em ambos os grupos (fase de adaptação), o grupo MTT apresentou uma maior redução às 8 semanas (51,25 para 50,13 KU/L vs. BWE: 51,71 para 53,47 KU/L, p = 0,041), indicando uma modulação sustentada do stress.

Conclusões: O treino de Muay Thai melhora significativamente a composição corporal e reduz a atividade do sistema nervoso simpático em comparação com o exercício aeróbico moderado. Estes achados corroboram a sua integração nos programas de saúde universitários como uma intervenção de dupla finalidade e com eficiência temporal. Pesquisas futuras deverão investigar a adesão a longo prazo e os mecanismos psicossociais subjacentes aos seus efeitos redutores do stress.
